What Martha Did Next

Under construction...

Oxford schoolgirl, Martha Mary Fernback died in 2013 from an accidental ecstasy overdose age 15. Her story has inspired many conversations in schools, universities, prisons, at international conferences and in parliament.

In 2018, the Martha 21 Exhibition was launched on what would have been Martha’s 21st birthday showcasing 21 of Martha’s personal belongings. Being surrounded by items from the 15 years of her life felt powerful and many young people said that her story had helped them to realise that they are not alone in their struggles.

The Martha Mary Fernback Art Prize was established to continue her legacy. Offering young people (age 12-21) who are struggling, with a year of creative support to encourage self-expression and to form dialogue and personal growth. Ending with a solo exhibition, alongside the creation of their own art portfolio for use to apply to higher education or employment.
